Voting With Love
Ballots are arriving in mailboxes across Washington for the August 2 Primary Election. Our state and country are faced with vital choices that will determine the direction we want to take in an election season marred by recent acts of violence and the hateful and divisive rhetoric of Donald Trump. Will voters choose love, compassion, and community or will they succumb to fear, prejudice, and isolation? Our choice couldn’t be more clear: we choose love and justice!
Together, we can overcome those who seek to divide us and create a just, inclusive America for our families and communities. That’s why OneAmerica Votes members are hard at work researching ballot initiatives and interviewing and endorsing candidates who fight for our values. Thankfully, this year we have candidates who are ready to lead and we encourage you to vote for them.

If you live in Washington’s 7th Congressional District, you have the opportunity to cast one of the most important votes in the country. Our very own Pramila Jayapal has led with love for years, fighting for justice for families and workers, including her leadership in the campaigns for a $15 minimum wage in Seattle and Seatac, comprehensive immigration reform, marriage equality, and voting rights. She founded OneAmerica in the aftermath of September 11, bravely speaking out at another time in our nation’s history when those with power and privilege scapegoated immigrants and refugees, people of color, and religious minorities. From a landscape of hopelessness and division, she built a multi-racial and multi-ethnic organization with deep connections across communities and movements. After leaving OneAmerica, she continued her fight for justice in the legislature as a State Senator, leading on issues ranging from the Washington Voting Rights Act to increasing the statewide minimum wage. We could not be more excited to endorse her campaign for Congress, knowing that her proven bold, progressive leadership is needed now more than ever.
There’s a lot more on your ballot. If we haven’t endorsed in a race, check out the Progressive Voters Guide to see who our allies are supporting.
Electing Pramila is like electing us, and the August primary is critical for her election since only the top two candidates continue. We’ll be holding two events to share our love for her with voters. What better way to celebrate Pramila’s leadership than by knocking on doors and speaking with voters in the most diverse precinct in the 7th Congressional District – White Center – and making multi-lingual phone calls to voters? Please join us by contacting Javier at email@example.com or by donating to support our grassroots efforts to elect a champion for justice!
